Optical Engineering and Design - meeting announcement

In consultation with a hugely well qualified committee we have been creating a new Optical Engineering & Design meeting as part of the Enlighten conference at Photonex. The Call for Papers is available for review at: www.photonex.org/conference/oed.php.

Along with Jake Sharpstone of Key Photonics, we have created a new Linked In group, Optical Engineering & Design Group of Great Britain, you would be most welcome to join this group. OED Group of GB.

The intention is to have a showcase event for Optical Engineering & Design alongside Photonex where younger designers can benefit from the huge amount of knowledge available in the Optical Design community. The UK needs to shout about its skills in the area of photonics and optical design, this year this event will more than likely be a UK event, but what is to stop this from becoming a European meeting?

Join us on LinkedIn to learn more and please offer a paper and contribute to a meeting that is likely to be very interesting and beneficial for all involved. Mark your diary!

Excellent response to new venue

It's four weeks since we launched the show to last year's exhibitors and the response has been outstanding. We have 40 companies booked in and have sold over 60% of the floor area we sold last year. We have several more companies going through the booking process at the moment. This is the fastest response we have had for years.

See for yourself - VIEW FLOORPLAN

What is interesting is that 27 of these companies have INCREASED the size of their stand, now this is a newsworthy fact!

Photonex 2010 - launch of event today, are companies more confident this year?

We wrote to all of last year's exhibitors today and are hoping to hear promptly from companies who know it is a good thing to have a stand in a good location. Will there be a scrabble for the best 'spots'?

The floorplan we are offering has a few feature positions and activities within the halls to make sure the visitors flow throughout the whole hall.

We expect a good response form the exhibitors who attended our open day two weeks ago, let's wait and see.

Photonex Visit to Telford well received

17 companies were represented at our 'last year's exhibitors' open house meeting at the International Centre in Telford on the 16th March. I presented the developments going on with Photonex, took questions and then we all walked the exhibition halls.

People were impressed and felt the venue was refreshingly smart and convenient. Several attendees expressed their surprise about their quick journey and one company phoned me the next day to comment that they made it back to Surrey in less than 2 hours.

The new venue is seen as a refreshing change and a great opportunity for renewal.

We know it won't always be traffic free on the motorways, but it is very encouraging that it was found to be accessible and easy to get to.
